Punch & Judy History

Punch and Judy have been firm favourites with the British since his first rave reviews in 1662, performing in the central piazza in Covent Garden London.

In 1662 he was a string puppet called Pulcinella. The British called him Punchinello, and later Punch.

Mr Punch lost his strings as the years went by, but his popularity continued to soar. The Victorians loved punch, and it is at about this time two things happened in Mr Punch's life. He moved to the seaside, and became acquainted for the first time with a crocodile
